Two years ago today...Raylee's Birth Story

*This post has been edited & added to from its original post.

John 16:21 When a woman is giving birth, she has sorrow because her hour has come, but when she has delivered the baby, she no longer remembers the anguish, for joy that a human being has been born into the world.

Because I started this blog when Raylee was 6 months old, I never got a chance to write down they story of how she was born. Seeing as it was two years ago today that I went into labor w/ her, it is fresh on my mind. At the time it was such an overwhelming feeling, and even two years & another sweet baby later, it is still a little surreal.

If you're not interested in reading that, check back tomorrow for Raylee's Birthday post & here is the link to the post about Raylee last year, on her 1st Birthday!

The story of Raylee's birth starts the day before she was born on February 19,2010. Paul was laying floors at the time, and he was in Louisiana doing a job where he did not get cellphone reception. It was a Friday, and he was finishing up the job then heading home for the weekend.

I was 39w4d pregnant w/ Raylee that Friday. Everything was ready for her arrival, we were just in waiting mode. I thought I would take a shower and get ready, because this big momma wanted some Chili's! About 4pm after I had taken a shower, and was watching Oprah I started to feel some tightening in my stomach. It didn't really hurt but it was noticeable. I decided to write down the times. The next few times I felt it were about 11 min. apart, but that was consistent in my book. Since Paul was unavailable for a few more hours, of course I called my Mom. She told me to keep timing them & keep her informed. By the time Paul got home the contractions were 8-10 min. apart. After telling him this, he didn't think that Chili's was such a great idea, but I reassured him that I was fine. Before we left I lost my mucus plug. Maybe this was it!?  There was about a 20 min. wait at Chili's, and as we sat waiting for a table I could feel the pressure of my contractions increase. By the time we got to the table, and got our food ordered, I had Paul writing down my contractions, which were now 3-5 min. apart. We got out of Chili's pretty quickly, and headed home. Something told me we would be back in Beaumont that night.

When we got home, I started trying to relax. The contractions were getting stronger, but I really didn't want to go to the hospital to be sent home. After getting some advice from my Auntie Susan & Mom, I tried to lay down for 30 min. & sip some water. I made it about 20 min., with Paul packing the car the whole time, and at about 9:30 I knew it was time to go. The ride to the hospital was long, and once we got there they told me I was dilated to 2cm, and needed to be at a 4cm in 2 hours, or I would need to go home. That was all the motivation I needed. Paul & I made a few laps around labor & delivery before I could tell the contractions were getting stronger. The nurse came in and sure enough I was 4-5cm, and would not be going anywhere.

After we knew it was really go time, our family started showing up. I was informed it was past midnight, so we knew Raylee's birthday would be 02/20/10. By this time my contractions were very strong & frequent. I quickly dilated all the way, and was beginning to feel urges to push.

My sister showed up from Austin shortly after that, which made me feel much better. After the nurses finished getting everything set up, I was ready to have this baby. There was only one problem. The doctor was not at the hospital yet! As I tried to stay calm, the nurses tried to distract me with questions on paperwork I had not had time to fill out yet. I knew it was almost time.

About then I heard one of the nurses say "He's here!" Then I took some deep breaths, and knew it was going to be ok. I could here my family outside pointing him in the direction of our room. Once he came in, things moved fast. He broke my water, and 2 pushes later, at 1:19 am,  Raylee was here! I saw a glimpse of her before they whisked her away to get cleaned up. She looked healthy & beautiful.

While I was getting fixed up, Paul got to hold her & showed her to my Mom, before she got to meet her hallway full of admirers. Finally, he put her in my arms, and I got to see my beautiful baby. It all seemed to happen so fast that I was having trouble processing that this was my baby.

They took her to the nursery for a few hours, while we got moved to our room, and everyone headed home. As Paul & I lay there, in the early hours of the morning, we could not believe the events that had just happened. I laid down for a few hours trying to get some rest, but the adrenaline would not let that happen. My mind kept replaying the events over & over, remembering something new each time. Finally, I dozed off for about an hour, and woke up to them wheeling in Raylee. :)

She had a bath, was really calm, and had a little purple bow in her hair. Looking at her,  I felt a tidal wave of love. Everything clicked. She was here! I looked at her all over. Her long fingers, and toes. Her ears, and little nose. She was perfect. She ate for the 1st time, and then her Daddy & I changed our 1st dirty diaper. That was an experience.

About 8 hours old.

We had visitors on and off Sat. & Sun., and by Sunday afternoon it was time for us to go home. The ride home was nerve racking, and then a few miles from our house the song "Remember When," by Alan Jackson came on the radio, and I lost it. "Remember when, old ones died, and new were born. And life was changed, disassembled, rearranged." I had mascara running all the way down my neck. Looking back the post baby hormone swing was in full effect.

6 days Old.

Needless to say, having Raylee was life changing. Taking care of her little self was intimidating at first, and I spent a lot of my time second guessing myself. To be honest, I still do that. Anyways, Raylee will be TWO tomorrow, and I love her more than I ever thought possible. Her birth was an exciting start to her life, and I'm glad to get to get to be along for the ride! I love you Raylee Michelle!

Birth Story

I am trying to get this story down while it is still fresh in my mind. On Tuesday morning, the 9th, I woke up around 4 am having contractions. I had been having them on and off, but felt the first real ones around 4. At about 7 they had picked up enough to where I thought it was time to go to the hospital. My mom came over and picked up Raylee, while Paul and I headed to the hospital. We did stop at Burger King for some breakfast on the way though! =) Once at the hospital, the nurse I would have all day admitted me, and told me I was dialated to 4 cm. This sounded ok to me, because 4 is better than 1! They then moved us to our own room, and the nurse came in and said they needed to put me on magnesium, because I had high blood pressure. The magnesium made me sick, and she said it would slow down my contractions, although luckily I was still able to progress. Family started arriving, which was a great distraction from everything else.  Around 3 pm, my nurse came in and said I was dialated to a 7, and that my Dr. wanted to start me on pitocin to speed things up.  I knew the pitocin would speed things up, but about 45 min. later I was ready to push. My nurse came in and, said I was ready and boy was I. The Doctor was on his way but Brinn was ready to make her arrival. She was born at 3:52, crying and beautiful. The Dr. made it in the room about 5 min. later, but by then I did not care. My beatiful girl was healthy, and I was healthy, and that is all that mattered to me.
Here are some pictures from the day.

Little sisters! <3

After everyone left, I had a had a scare when I was trying to get out of the bath tub, and I fainted. Luckily Paul was there to catch me, and I was able to get some rest and feel better.

Up next is more pictures, and I will try to post the link to the pictures they took in the hospital that turned out really great, but until then hope everyone is having a great weekend!

Well...

I would love to be announcing the birth of our new baby girl, but unfortunately we are STILL waiting for her. Today I went for my 41 week appointment at the doctor. She scheduled a non-stress test for this Thursday if she has not made her arrival by then. They will make sure everything looks ok, and we will decide where to go from there.

Although I would love to be posting pictures of Brinn, I will have to settle for a picture of her on her due date

Raylee went and stayed 3 days at my Mom's house. We just got her home this evening, and even though we know she had so much fun, it is nice that we get to spend a little bit more time with her, and  just  her, before little sister gets here.

Hope everyone had a great day!!

Still Here

Well, I had another Dr's appointment today, and there was a little progress, but nothing serious. I have been having contractions on and off since then, but nothing consistant so we wait. We ordered our double stroller today thanks to my Dad & Lenora! (Thanks Grandma & Grandpa!) I am excited to try it out! Here is a pic.

Last week it rained here almost every day, and Raylee looked so cute in her raincoat!

Hope everyone is having a great day!

Brinn Update & Football is ON!

Just a little update on Miss Brinn:
I went to the Doctor yesterday, and I was dilated to a 2! I was also down a pound. :) Basically, it could be any day now. My guess is that it will be late next week, but I know that once those contractions start it is go time! When I had Raylee, I felt my 1st contractions around 4 in the afternoon, went to the hospital around 10 at night and Raylee was born at 1:19 a.m. It was very fast! Seeing as this is my 2nd, things should go even faster, so once I feel consistent contractions we will be headed to the hospital!

Also, as I am sure you have heard, football is back! Paul got his fantasy football invitation today, and he is so excited. He is playing in the same league as last year, and even though it takes up SO much time, I am happy for him. Little does he know that I used some Kohl's cash, and this is on the way to our house:

Hope everyone is having a good evening! Check back tomorrow for Wordless Wednesday!

Brinn's Nursery Pictures

This past weekend, Paul and I finished up the nursery. We have been working on projects for a while, but finally got everything hung up, and ready to go. Just for a reminder here is the before picture.

& here is the after!

Changing Table

& her crib w/ letters

I am really happy with the way that it turned out! Even though the girls will probably share a room in the future, I wanted Brinn to have her own space, and own nursery theme. With Raylee, I did mostly purple everything, so this time I wanted to embrace pink. Now we just need our sweet little girl to put in there!

Hope everyone is having a great day!

Father's Day 2011

We had a good Father's Day over here. We spent lots of time together, and ate lots of yummy food. We also made a trip to the park, which Raylee seemed to enjoy. She wasn't a big fan of swinging by herself.

Trying to get a smile

NOT Happy..despite what the shirt might say :)

The play house was much more her thing. The stairs wern't steep, and Daddy went up with her. She even slid down by herself. Can not believe how big she is getting.

Love this one!

This is as much of a sliding picture as I got, because I wanted to make sure she made it down ok.

But I got Paul sliding! :)

There was no one on the playground so we swang on the big swings together. It was a nice time.

Raylee & Daddy ~ Father's Day 2011

Here are a couple more from the photos we took at the park last week, that were taken with my camera.

Holding both my girls! :)

33 weeks - Almost there!

Hope everyone has a wonderful day!

It's My Birthday!

Hey everyone! Today is my birthday, and even though it's a Monday, and I am getting older, it is still an exciting day! We had a great weekend around here, and were able to spend a lot of time together. Here is my little smiley pants after she had pulled out her bow, and pony tail.

We went and ate at Outback on Friday night, and didn't think to take pictures until we were about to leave, and Raylee would not have any of it.

Get away from me Mom!

Later Raylee was trying to wear her Daddy's shoes. This picture makes me laugh every time.

Here is a picture of my birthday gift from My Mom & Gary. Thank Yall! Paul put it together for me yesterday, and I love it!

Here is one with me in it! :)

Ignore my messy room in the back ground. We have been working on Raylee's room, so that we can get that ready and work on the nursery. Raylee's room is almost done, just need a few more things. Here is a picture from yesterday.

Can you spot her in the picture trying to find something to get into?

Well, I hope everyone has a great day. Even if it is Monday!
